COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  Our boys had their best team race of the year to earn 11th.  All of our seniors went out with their best race and that is a great way for them to conclude their careers.  In addition, Ben Lambert had a solid performance.  Freshman Alex Lamp set a new personal record and Matt Severe was able to compete despite battling serious leg pain.  It was great to see us come together as a group.

Individually, Jesse Ogg ran an exceptional race going out aggressively and taking the lead for the first ¾ of a mile.  He was passed by the lead pack at that point but continued to battle throughout the race and used a strong final kick to hold on for 11th.  His time was a new P.R. by 20 seconds.  Ben didn’t have the race he had hoped for but still did a very solid job in running just over 10 seconds off his best.  Ethan Barnes accomplished his goal of concluding with a much better state meet than a year ago when he finished 119th.  This year Ethan earned 69th as an individual.  Brandon Hicok really stepped forward at this meet and allowed our team to succeed by staying close to Ethan.  Brandon had to overcome adversity this season and it was great to see him go out successfully.  As mentioned earlier, Alex Lamp set a new personal record in rounding out our scoring.  I was very glad Matt Severe was able to compete after taking the entire week off.  Matt has done a lot in the last 2 years for our squad often competing in pain.  Adam Klein competing in his first state meet as a senior battled throughout the race and set a new personal record in the process.

Mikaela Pruismann gave a good effort but was unable to summon forth the race she had hoped to run.  16:38 was a solid effort but well short of her goal of top 25.  I think Mikaela was affected  by the fact that our girls team was unable to qualify.  She worked hard all week to prepare and had a positive attitude but she lacked the edge that she normally has when leading the entire squad.  It is to her credit that team comes first.  Fortunately for her and our girls, they return next season and can work toward rejoining forces at the state meet.

Our banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Middle School.  Those attending should bring their own table service, a hot dish and desert.  Drinks will be provided.
