COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  The meet marks significant improvement for our boys squad.  It was our 3rd championship in a row at this meet.  We were up against solid competition as BCLUW, (10th ranked, 1A) was a class champion at the Ballard Invitational, CMB was runner-up at Ballard in their class as was Nevada. Jesse Ogg had his best race of the season as he and Tom Peterson of Nevada went head to head throughout the race.  Jesse used a strong finishing kick off the last hill to win the meet for the 2nd year in a row.  Ben Lambert competed well and responded well to falling late in the race in the slipper conditions by jumping up and passing a couple of runners on the way to the finish line.  Ethan Barnes continues a great senior season with another top 10 finish and senior Brandon Hicok made rapid improvement in his 2nd meet by finishing 12th and closing to within 12 seconds of Ethan.  Matt Severe did a great job of staying with Brandon throughout 2/3 of the race and held on as our #5.  Alex Lamp continues to improve and Adam Klein gave us a good effort.  On the J.V. side, we ran a strong overall team race with Jared Wilaby and Austin Elm leading the way.  We will now use the Ft. Dodge Invitational as a final tune-up for conference.  The meet will be held on the state meet course at Lakeside Golf Course north of Ft. Dodge on Thursday.

COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  We had a great team race against high quality competition.  North Tama is currently ranked 6th and BCLUW 5th in Class 1A.  Nevada had finished runner-up in Class B at Ballard.  The meet featured some of the top individuals in the state including the Dinsdale twins.  One of the most pleasing about the team at this meet is that we continue to develop tremendous depth.  Bailey Bergman, running her first varsity race of the year, responded with an outstanding effort to finish as our #5 runner.  Erin Hunt had her second great race in a row and ran as our #3.  Breanne Wagner remains solid and Caitlyn Finucan gave us a good effort as our #4.  Jewel and Paige battled hard despite being a bit worn down right now.  Mikaela Pruismann showed excellent progress in finishing 6th and setting a new school record of 15:30 in the process.  The mark breaks the record of Kelsey Tompkins set at Ballard in 2005 in a time of 15:46.  We were running without Sarah Perin who usually finishes as our #2 or #3 runner due to out of state family commitments.  For us to finish 3rd ahead of Nevada shows that we are a strong and deep team.  On the J.V. side, our entire squad medaled with top 15 performances led by a great effort by Bailey Anderson who finished runner-up and a personal best race by Kelsey Griffith.  We will now use the Ft. Dodge Invite on Thursday as final preparation for conference.
