COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  As a team, it was good to break into the top ten which is always one of our primary goals.  That’s a good accomplishment for this squad given where we started the season.  However, had we been to put together a solid scoring 5, we would have finished in the top 5 or 6.  Individually, Jesse Ogg and Ben Lambert ran outstanding races, particularly in the final 2/3 of the course.  They opened together in 5:15 running somewhere in the mid 50’s for a place.  They both had an exceptional final 2 miles to move forward to 18th and 26th place.  Those placings represent enormous improvements over a year ago and certainly are something to build on for the future.  Senior Aaron Bieker had the finest race in his final meet.  17:50 was a significant personal record and he ran strongly throughout.  Brandon and Ethan gave a good effort but had a rough go on the day.  Matt Severe and Zach Turner both had solid runs for a pair of young state meet newcomers.  While it will be difficult to say good-bye to Aaron who has provided so much stability and focus to the team this season, we are certainly excited about the fact that we bring back 6 of our 7 runners next season.

Our banquet will be held on Monday November 6th at 6:30 at the Middle School commons.  The dinner is potluck.  All athletes, family members, alumni and community supporters are welcome.  Please bring your own table service and either a hot dish, salad or dessert.

COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  The effort represented a good race for us.  I thought a solid run would net us a place somewhere around 12th.  We accomplished that.  It would have taken a great run and a very tight pack to move into the top 10.  I was pleased that our lone senior, Emily Long, was able to lead our effort.  Her experience paid off and Mikaela wisely worked with Emily throughout the race.  Both of them had very solid performances.  Breanne Wagner ran very well as our #3 and Sarah Perin gave a good effort but found herself separated from Breanne early in the race and was never able to get hooked back up with her.  Paige Bonjour had another good run and I was pleased to see that she was able to complete 3 solid races after a season which she struggled with injuries.  Amanda Hicok and Ashley Mallinger worked together throughout the race but got caught toward the back of the race early on which made it difficult to move forward.  Overall, given that Emily is our only senior, we certainly can look forward to good things provided that we realize she leaves big shoes to fill and that the future depends upon not only these girls but the members of our J.V. squad working very hard to show significant improvement next season.

Emily Long has been selected to compete in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Senior All Start Meet to be held on the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames on Saturday.  The meet begins at noon with an open division race in which anyone of any age can pay $5.00 and run the championship 5K course.  Emily will compete at 1:00 p.m. along with All Start athletes from across the state from all classes combined.  She will be representing the Class 3A Northwest Region.
