COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  I was extremely pleased with the progress that was displayed throughout our line-up.  Virtually every performance represented a significant personal record.  Some runners cut 1-2 minutes off their previous best.  We narrowed our 1-5 gap even though Jesse and Ben went very low on their times.  This was, by far, the best pack running we have displayed.  The quality of our performance is evidenced by the fact that we defeated #7 ranked Humboldt and #4 ranked Spirit Lake.  #14 ranked Spencer, who we had narrowly defeated at Carroll, jumped up and got us and Charles City, #3 ranked, dominated the meet.  Fairmont, Minnesota is consistently ranked among the best in their class.  Jesse Ogg and Ben Lambert both had exceptional races and both ran close to 1 minute personal records.  This was Jesse’s first time in the 16’s.  The difference for our squad, however, was the tight pack formed by Brandon Hicok, Aaron Bieker and Ethan Barnes.  We will need to continue to improve over the next two weeks but our hard work has given us a chance as we approach conference and district.  Our J.V. runners had amazing improvement.  Zach Turner cut 1 minute off of his previous best.  Adam Klein, Jared Wilaby, Brad Smith, Danny Choi and Grant Ryherd all cut 2 minutes off of their previous best.  Jon Richardson had a new personal record as well.

COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  This was by far and away our best girls team race of the season and it needed to be considering that we were up against #3 ranked ELCAR, #4 ranked Spirit Lake and #5 ranked Spencer.  While Emily Long and Mikaela Pruismann continue to do a great job for us, our significant team improvement was due to the pack running of Breane Wagner, Sarah Perin and Paige Bonjour.  This was the first time that we have had less than a 1 minute 1-5 gap and we are getting very close to forming a pack of 5.  Every performance, varsity and J.V., represented a new season’s best.  We once again came less than 10 points away from beating highly regarded Spencer and we finished ahead of strong Charles City and conference rivals Algona Garrigan.  We will face extremely challenging conference and district competition and we will have to improve over the next two weeks in order to achieve our goals but this was a great performance and we hope to use it as a launching board for even better things to come.  We next compete at the Eldora Invitational on Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Pine Lake Golf and Country Club.  Our annual alumni and family picnic will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the lake.  All former Lynx cross country athletes and supporters are invited to attend and bring a covered dish or desert as the meal is potluck.
