COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  At this time of year, you want to take on great competition to see where you stand. This meet featured two teams ranked in Class 3A, (Spencer 6th and Atlantic 13th) as well as very talented 4A teams from Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson and Urbandale.  Our boys demonstrated significant improvement from the beginning of the year by defeating the two ranked teams from our class.  We still have a way to go but we are on our way. Jesse Ogg took on 15th ranked Jess McCall of Shenandoah and 23rd ranked Ryan Edwardson of Spencer and led the first mile.  While Jesse is rounding into shape, he needs more conditioning and he fell back to 15th for the middle of the race.  I was very pleased to see him rally with a strong final 800M to move up to 3rd.  Sophomore Ben Lambert continued his string of top 10 performances with a 9th place finish against an excellent field.  Ethan Barnes, Brandon Hicok and Aaron Bieker are really coming together as a pack and as they narrow our gap, we will continue to move up the ladder as a team.  Freshman Matt Severe ran very well for 39th.  Jon Richardson had a tough race but hung in to finish 66th.  On the J.V. side, we had excellent races from a number of athletes.  In particular, Devin Linn, Zach Turner and Adam Klein stood out.  Devin earned a varsity spot for our next meet at Algona on Monday September 25th.

COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  This was a great meet with very high powered individuals and teams involved.  Our girls stepped forward and showed that they belong among the best by finishing 4th, just behind 11th ranked Spencer and just ahead of 14th ranked Denison.  The meet was won by Urbandale, (4th ranked in 4A) and Harlan, (2nd ranked in 3A) was runner-up.  Individually, the meet featured 5 athletes ranked in either Class 3A or 4A.  Mikaela Pruismann and Emily Long both had excellent efforts in finishing 10th and 13th.  Breane Wagner and Sarah Perin showed improvement as they moved forward to finish as our 3rd and 4th runners.  Paige Bonjour had a tough race but battled to remain a scoring runner for us.  Ashley Mallinger and Becky Perin had solid runs.  On the J.V. side, we showed tremendous depth as Erin Hunt, Bailey Anderson, Amanda Hicok and Bailey Bergman all finished within 22 seconds of each other.  Erin earned a varsity position with her best effort of the year.  Amanda Hicok was running a tremendous race and was in 6th place with less than 400M to go before a cramp caused her to fall back.  This bodes well for the girls team as we move forward to the second half of our season.
