COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS: It was a great way to start, especially considering that we had been hit hard by graduation with 5 of our top 7 being freshmen, we didn’t quit know what to expect. All of our athletes responded extremely well and allowed us to compete at a very high level. When you consider that in addition to our varsity, we had 4 in the top 10 J.V. including 3 more freshmen. We certainly feel the future is very bright for the girls. Individually, Mikaela ran an outstanding race in her first high school competition. She was extremely aggressive throughout the race and took on some of the best runners in the area. Paige Bonjour has shown improvement over a year ago and both she and Emily Long were solid in the 2-3 spots. Freshman Breanne Wagner stepped forward as our #4 runner and the remainder of our varsity line-up battled hard. I was very pleased by the depth shown by our J.V. Again, we had a solid effort throughout the line-up. Senior Becky Perin is responding well to the challenge and led the effort there.

COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS: We had a solid effort and it is good to know that we are in the hunt in terms of our position in the conference. We need to continue to work on our conditioning and use our practice efforts to close the gaps in our line-up. Some big opportunities are in front of us if we are willing to seek excellence, both in practices and then at meets. Individually, Ben Lambert had a fine improvement upon last year by medaling in 10th place. Jesse Ogg ran aggressively in the first half of the race and was in contention in the top 5 before fading. We had a solid pack in our next 3 positions throughout much of the race. Brandon Hicok, Ethan Barnes and Aaron Bieker are working hard together and as they come forward, our team score will improve. Freshman Matt Severe and senior Devin Linn both had fine efforts in their first high school cross country races. Our J.V. featured some good individual efforts. Most noteworthy were Zach Turner and Adam Klein who finished 10th and 11th as well as Senior Jon Richardson who finished 13th in his first high school race. Our next competition will be at Waverly on Tuesday September 5th. That meet features age group competitions by high school class.
