COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  Our girls competed strongly even though some of our normal varsity runners were ill or battling injuries.  Iowa Falls did an exceptional job of matching up with us.  The fact that they beat us by one point will provide focus as we prepare for the conference and district meets.  District competitor Nevada was only seven points behind as well.  Individually, Kelsey Tompkins continues to lead us.  She is currently battling a sinus infection.  Emily Long, Paige Bonjour, Becky Perin and Ashley Hanson all had good efforts.  Shannon Kane did what she could given she is battling and upper respiratory infection as well as foot problems.  Elizabeth Johnson did an outstanding job of stepping forward and filling in for Libby McMurray who was withheld from competition due to sore legs.  Elizabeth gave everything she had as she competed to the line with Iowa Fall’s #6 runner.  Her effort was evidenced by the fact that she passed out 5 meters from the finish line, recovered, got up and finished with one of our top seven times of the day.  It is very gratifying for a coach to have an athlete invest everything they have on behalf of their teammates.  On the J.V. side, all four girls who competed ran exceptionally well.  Jennie Bunkofske and Emily Sewick in particular continued to show late season improvement.

Our middle schoolers will be hosting several other teams at Brewer Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Monday for our annual Middle School Invitational.

COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:  Our boys have really come together as a team.  We essentially had a one minute spread in our scoring pack.  It has been several years since that has been the case.  The fact that we have a rotating top five, with any one individual stepping forward to lead is evidence that we are running as a team.  Jesse Ogg had a fantastic race.  Alex Flege returned to form after battling a stitch at Algona.  Nick Barnes was very solid.  Ben Lambert and Aaron Bieker also had excellent races.  Drew Hunt and Cole Hippen were very solid as well.  This course is the hilliest we have run on and year to year the boys run one minute slower than on most of the other courses. To win the meet by nearly seventy points is a real tribute to the effort being put forth by the guys.  On the J.V. side, we had a number of excellent efforts.  Peter Odegard, Chris Gordon and Brandon Hicok all had solid efforts.  Zach Turner and Brad Smith had their best races to this point.  We will now prepare for the Ft. Dodge Invitational on Thursday and look forward to the opportunity to face 4A competition on the state meet course.  The meet begins at 4:45.
