COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS: This meet features the opportunity for the athletes to run against only those of their own age. It required at least 3 girls in a class in order to have a team score. Our senior girls had a tough battle with Hempstead and West. Competitions like this will only help us improve. Kelsey Tompkins had an excellent race in finishing 4^th against a field featuring some of the state’s best. Our junior group also had a strong showing. In particular, Emily Long ran very aggressively taking the lead in her race after the mile mark and battling Alex Langland of Waukon throughout the race before finishing 2^nd. Both Kelsey’s and Emily’s performances represented significant improvement over last week’s efforts at the Lynx Invitational. Paige Bonjour also had a great race as she battled in the top 10 throughout the competition before finishing 10^th. Overall, our girls team had a solid night but we continue to need to improve if we hope to achieve our season’s goals.

COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS: We had a few good individual performances as a boys

squad but struggled as a team to put together a consistent effort. Ben Lambert had a solid run in

finishing 4^th in the freshmen race. Chris Wardell had an excellent effort in winning the senior

race with a meet’s best performance of 17:01. Alex Flege went out aggressively but suffered a

severe side stitch while Jesse Ogg struggled early with sore hips before moving up through the

field as he loosened up. As a squad, we have a great deal of work to do and a long way to go

before we become competitive as a team.
